Location Research.

As we now know the theme, genre and aims for our music video we are able to understand in more detail what specific locations we may want to use. Here are a variety of thumbnails which have been analysed to give an idea of where our ideas are going and where the music video will be filmed.

Initial Ideas for Mise en Scene.

When working as a group on discussing how we are going to further our music video from initial plans we have already made, I have thought about the main Mise-en-Scene we will need. Here is a list of a few ideas:

• Bench
• Sleeping bag
• Costumes- specific the two characters included in the video
- Girl: Large earrings, ripped fish net tights, Hoody, Little skirt, hair in a messy bun.
- Boy: Jeans, leather jacket/hoody, casual top, converse shoes
• Guitar
• Car
• Blanket
• Money
• Magazine (Big Issue)
• Makeup

We may add to this list when coming to produce the video as more ideas will be final. This is a draft copy to extend on what we have already worked on.

Ideas for the female Costume.

The female costume we intend to choose is very simple, as we were shooting our actress and the narrative was based around her being homeless, we wanted the conventions of the costume to show this and make the character clear to the audience. Re-searching into homeless people was challenging for us as a group, so we had to use our own imagination and create the outfit ourselves. We felt like we wanted to make the girl look grubby and cheap, so using the simple outfit portrayed the correct idea and set the scene for the music video.

We chose this dark vest top which is an item of clothing we will kept throughout the whole of the video, we chose black as it gives connotations of darkness, this colour is known to be 'bad' and gives a negative representation. We want to show the girl was in a very low stage in her life so if we use a bright colour top this wouldn't relate to the video.
This vest top is also going to be used throughout the prostituion scene but we will 'glam' this up by removing the hooded jacket she wears throughout - by removing the jacket she shows more skin as the top is slightly revealing. We also intend to place prominant make-up on the actress to show the video is leading into a different scene.

This is the hoodie we want to use throughout, we thought by having a very dull colour along with the black vest top would show the emotions she is feeling. We are going to make the hoodie look more 'tramp like' by rubbing dirt and mud into the jacket so the outfit is very realistic for the role of a homeless person.

I believe the ripped tights completes the outfit and by ripping random holes in them can really create a clear image of the character to the audience and a sense of reality. We also used these in the prostitute scene, which proves even though she's tried to glam up she doesn't have the money to buy a new outfit.

Ideas for the male costume.

The costume plays an important part in the music video as it can signify the genre of the song, we wanted to show a variety of different ways to portray the 'indie' theme and by looking at Ed Sheeran's styling we came to the conclusion that they use every day clothing. So this is what we want to base the style around.

Here is a typical outfit for an indie artist. Wearing a checkered shirt, and a plain black top underneath, we want to keep this type of look as we thought it would suit the person who will be doing our performance part in the video. We hope to place our artist in clothes that are more stylish, with more to the outfit than just 'shirt and jeans'. Also, in this picture, he looks kind of messy, which makes the look a lot more creative, and we want to keep the convention of this and portray to the audience that he is not too 'clean cut' but a bit has more of an edgy style. Below you can see the coat we will plan to place our artist in, this is currently one of thetop of the fashion trends and i believe by using this coat we will successfully completed the challenge when we aimed to make the costume Indie but also fashionable.

We want both narrative and performance shots within our music video. As a group we analysed the lyrics and wanted to relate this to our production piece we intend to produce. The original music video is very depressing and emotional which is one of the qualities we wanted to portray, by looking in depth at the lyrics we were able to create this in our music video.

The orange represents the actress' appearance, this is easy to witness throughout the whole video; especially when we show the shot of the 'tramp' putting makeup on in the mirror.

The green represents her struggle for money etc when she is holiday coins and when she is getting paid for prostitution.

Finally, the red highlights the theme of drugs throughout the video.

White lips, pale face
Breathing in snowflakes
Burnt lungs, sour taste
Light's gone, day's end
Struggling to pay rent
Long nights, strange men

And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting
Crumbling like pastries

And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
And she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly

Ripped gloves, raincoat
Tried to swim and stay afloat
Dry house, wet clothes
Loose change, bank notes
Weary-eyed, dry throat
Call girl, no phone

And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting

Crumbling like pastries

And they scream
The worst things in life come free to us
Cos we're just under the upperhand
And go mad for a couple of grams
But she don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe she flies to the Motherland
Or sells love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly

An angel will die
Covered in white
Closed eye
And hoping for a better life
This time, we'll fade out tonight
Straight down the line

And they say
She's in the Class A Team
Stuck in her daydream
Been this way since 18
But lately her face seems
Slowly sinking, wasting

Crumbling like pastries
They scream
The worst things in life come free to us
And we're all under the upperhand
Go mad for a couple of grams
And we don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe we fly to the Motherland
Or sell love to another man
It's too cold outside
For angels to fly
Angels to fly
To fly, fly
Angels to fly, to fly, to fly
Angels to die
